ABOUT ME

I am a writer from Melbourne, Australia. I am currently studying English Literature and Philosophy at Oxford Brookes University in Oxford, UK.

I was studying Creative Writing at RMIT, focusing on poetry and short fiction as my majors. I identify firstly as a poet but also can't resist my urge to write short fiction.

I spend my spare time reading, writing, and painting. Before I left Melbourne I took courses at CAE in Latin and Russian which have become a passion of mine. I have been studying Latin for two years and Russian for 6 months.

I am very passionate about the publishing industry and have already gained experience in my few short years at university. There is a gap in my resume as I took a year off study to travel to Italy and for a short period assist with the bicentennial celebrations of John Keats and Percy Bysshe Shelley’s works and deaths at the Keats-Shelley Memorial House in Rome. It was an extremely rewarding experience seeing how poetry can bring together such passionate people from all over the world. I intend to travel back and become even more involved.

I am very much looking forward to the bicentennial celebration of 200 years since Shelley's death and have already booked my ticket to Italy and to all the events!

My main focus academically would ideally be Romantic poetry and prose, combining both ecocriticism and ecological philosophy to help bring Romanticism back into relevance. I believe that they have so much still to teach us and that their naturalistic worldview is exactly what we need today.

In terms of experience, I have interned for the Lifted Brow and loved every second of it. I did mundane tasks as the mail run, cleaning, and a lot of folding but I got to send out press release copies of Brow books, read for new fiction and non-fiction submissions, proofread comics, read potential manuscripts and proofread the upcoming issue of the Brow.

I also interned at ‘The Gazette’ as a part of the Emerging Writers’ Festival and got hands-on experience of leading a team of writers, editors, designers, and photographers. I also got to be heavily involved with students from the Professional Writing and Editing course at RMIT and in those few short weeks learned a lot of valuable editing skills that I use to this day. I also got to experience the author/editor relationship as I got to act and lead a team as both.

I have also volunteered at the Melbourne Writers’ Festival last year in the box office and volunteer support. I loved to be giving back to a festival that has given me so many fond memories and unique experiences.

I am very organised, hard-working, always punctual and I dedicate myself to performing any task I’m given to the best of my ability. I am experienced with reading and assessing submissions through my internship and also giving feedback to my peers in class as a poet. I am also a champion at coffee runs, stapling, filing, cleaning and am happy to undergo any task that betters the running of a publication or business.
